More About This Trip

This tour includes aspects of the old and new city of Salalah and its rise to importance due to the trading of frankincense.

We start the trip with a visit to Sultan Qaboos Mosque (time and day dependent due to prayers). Then we make a photo stop at the entrance to Al Hosn Palace (home of the Sultan's family). Next, we visit Haffa Souq, the original frankincense 'luban' market of Salalah. You can inhale the amazing fragrances and purchase genuine frankincense, a perfect souvenir. We then proceed to the Al Baleed Museum and Archeological Park (Al Baleed was a medieval port and village). Here you learn about the history of the Dhofar region and see many archaeological artifacts. The views are also amazing! We finish the tour by sampling the local bananas and drinking from the delicious fresh coconuts in the famous markets lining the roads.
