More About This Trip

Discover the rich nature and history of the Dhofar region as you travel east of Salalah.

First, we will visit Taqah Castle. Sympathetically restored, it gives you an insight into the daily lives of the people in 19th century Oman. The next stop is Wadi Darbat. The lush green valley of the river Darbat (especially after the khareef (rainy) season). Here there is a seasonal waterfall that flows into a beautiful turquoise plunge pool. Often you can take photos here of the caravans of camels grazing on the banks of the river. We then descend to the coast to visit a UNESCO site 'Samharam'. In its associated museum, you can discover more about the fascinating past of this port city and its trade of frankincense around the world. Often in the lagoon below this you can spot flocks of flamingoes, herons, spoonbills, and other wader birds. The area offers fantastic views of the East Coast and the Qamar Mountains.
